American anglers issued fines and fishing bans
A fishing trip to northwestern Ontario has cost two Louisiana men over $8,000.
Court issued the fines after finding the men guilty of failing to package fish they intended to bring home properly.
Ministry of Natural Resources Conservation officers found 100 pieces of fish in bags located in the anglers’ vehicle during an inspection conducted in Fort Frances near the Canada-U.S. border in June 2024.
The fish was packaged in such a way that the species and number of fish could not be determined.
James Shoemake of St. Francisville, Louisiana, was fined $3,000 and issued a five-year fishing licence suspension.
Michael Williams, also of St. Francisville, was fined $5,125 and given a one-year fishing ban.
