2 Thunder Bay hunters face license suspension, fines for shooting moose from road
Two Thunder Bay residents are facing $8,000 fines and a two-year hunting license suspension after shooting a moose from a road.
On November 3, 2024, conservation officers responded to a report of a dead cow moose in a forestry cut area off of East Arrow Lake Road west of Thunder Bay.
Further investigation determined that two hunters had harvested a moose in the area two days earlier.
It was determined that while the pair were harvesting a calf moose, they also shot and injured a cow moose that was with it.
The hunters knew they had hit another moose, but they decided to leave the area without searching for the moose or reporting the error.
The two men were licensed to hunt for calf moose, but the moose that was harvested was seized because the moose was shot at from the roadway.
The case came before the Ontario Court of Justice in May.
