Riverside Health Care receives record $1M donation towards MRI scanner
Riverside Health Care is celebrating a landmark $1 million pledge from the FDC Foundation — the largest one-time donation in its history.
The contribution supports the Lights, Camera, DIAGNOSIS campaign, which aims to bring the district’s first MRI scanner to LaVerendrye General Hospital and install new digital X-ray units in Fort Frances and Rainy River.
Of the $1 million, $800,000 is available immediately, while the remaining $200,000 is a matching pledge. It will be unlocked if the community raises $600,000 locally by the summer of 2026, effectively doubling the impact of that fundraising.
So far, nearly $200,000 has been raised in just five months, putting the campaign almost two-thirds of the way toward its $1.6 million goal.
The FDC Foundation, a private family foundation not based in the district, said it chose to invest because it believes access to quality health care should not depend on where someone lives.
Hospital officials say the donation will speed up the timeline for expanding diagnostic services across the Rainy River District.
