Dogs must be leashed in Centennial Park as bear sightings increase
Thunder Bay officials are warning people to be on the lookout for bears in Centennial Park.
Due to black bear sighting on park trails, pet owners are being instructed to keep all dogs leashed, even in the leash-free area until further notice.
In a release, the city says bears are stocking up on food ahead of winter hibernation and have been spotted in the park more recently.
It says off-leash dogs can surprise bears potentially causing a defensive attack.
If people do encounter a bear while in Centennial Park, they are asked to stop, remain calm and not to panic.
