New Gold reaches new production record at Rainy River mine
A production record for New Gold at its Rainy River Mine.
More than 100-thousand ounces of gold were produced in the last three months.
Vice-president of Operations Travis Murphy says that is a 65 percent increase over the same period last month.
“This excellent performance was driven by processing higher-grade open-pit material in addition to processing and pouring the 5,900 ounces of gold in circuit as discussed at the end of the second quarter,” says Murphy.
Murphy adds that the mill processed an average of 25,100 tonnes of ore each day.
He says the production over the last three months keeps them on target to hit the midpoint of their target of 240,000 to 295,000 ounces of gold this year.
New Gold also made progress in advancing underground operations, which contributed to the production numbers expected to continue for the rest of this year.
The search for new ore bodies is also continuing.
Vice-president of Geology, Jean-Francois Ravenelle, says part of the search looks to expand open-pit operations.
“At the northwestern open pit zone, which is located immediately west of the phase five pushback, our drilling programs are expected to grow and upgrade the existing pit constraint resource to the indicated category. Engineering studies are currently underway to evaluate potential mineral reserves,” says Ravenelle.
Exploration is also taking place underground, with engineering studies underway to determine the amount of gold available.
“The next phases of drilling to be conducted in 2026 and 2027 will benefit from future underground platforms, which are expected to accelerate resource and reserve development over that period and beyond.”
Ravenelle says there is a significant portion of their 31,000 hectares that remains largely underexplored.
New Gold is spending approximately $2 million this year to identify areas for additional exploration in the future.
