Youth and Family Wellness Camp receives large financial gift
A huge donation for the Makate Waagamichiwanang Gakinaa’amaatiwin Youth and Family Wellness Camp (MWG or Kenora Youth and Family Wellness Camp).
The Krawczyk Family Foundation is committing $10 million dollars to expand and sustain the camp on Black Sturgeon Lake.
Alex Sherman Krawczyk founder of the Foundation says the camp is a special place and does special things.
“We’re just really inspired and impressed by the leadership team and their vision for so different things on this land and just in their communities and in Kenora as well,” Krawczyk says in explaining why they gave the donation.
Executive Director of the camp, Stefanie Bryant says it’s a huge shot in the arm for them.
“I just can’t stress enough how deeply honoured we are for this gift. It’s going to transform how we’re able to deliver services and expand our reach. Currently, we’re serving about 15,000 individuals a year and we can only hope to grow.”
The donation will go towards operational programming at the camp for three years and also establish the Honey Bear Healing Garden and Outdoor Classroom.
The camp’s new indoor riding arena, which is currently being built and open in 2026, will also be named the Krawczyk Family Equine Therapy Center in recognition of the donation.
Bryant says Makate Waagamichiwanang Gakinaa’amaatiwin Youth and Family Wellness Camp currently has 30 year-round employees, and that number grows to about 60 during the summer.
