Melillo not a fan of federal budget
The Conservatives plan to make their own amendments to the federal budget next week.
Kenora-Kiiwetinoong MP Eric Melillo says he not a big fan of the Liberal’s big spending budget.
“My initial impression is that this is a very costly budget that will continue to drive up the cost of living,” Melillo says from his Ottawa office.
“The deficit will sit at $78 billion. There $90 billion more in spending and now it’s pushing our debt to over $1.35 trillion.”
Melillo adds that he’s alarmed by the increase in spending.
“It is not the budget that Mark Carney promised. He promised the deficit would only be $62 billion, it’s $78 billion, which is still a large deficit. He promised less spending…there’s going to be more. Mark Carney would be more investment. The budget shows that investment will decline in every quarter this year.”
Melillo says unless the government approves the Conservative amendments to the budget, he’ll vote against it.
