Dryden OPP officer presented bravery award
A Dryden OPP officer has been recognized for her heroism.
Sergeant Erin Huckell was one of 15 officers to be presented with the Ontario Medal for Police Bravery on Monday.
She was recognized for her actions on September 5th, 2023, when she and another officer responded to a domestic incident where a child was present in the home.
They heard a scream from inside and forced entry into the residence.
They were confronted by a sword-wielding assailant.
As they attempted to arrest him, Huckell was stabed in the thigh and the other officer was bitten by a dog and slashed across the back.
With the help of backup, they were able to subdue the suspect.
Her write-up for the award says, “Their fearless response protected a child and each other”.
