The Dryden GM Ice Dogs continue to hold down first place in the Superior Junior International Hockey League, despite splitting their games over the weekend.
On Saturday, the Ice Dogs were shut out by the Fort Frances Lakers 4-0. Brady Cates was the game’s first star turning aside 44 shots for the shutout.
On Friday night, Dryden earned a 6-5 win in overtime.
The Ice Dogs now have 35 points, followed by Fort Frances in second with 33 points.
The Thunder Bay North Stars are in third place in the standings after beating up on the Red Lake Miners in a pair of weekend games.
The North Stars downed Red Lake 6-2 Saturday night and pummeled the Miners 13-1 Friday night.
The Kam River Fighting Walleye also won both of their games with a 3-2 win over the Sioux Lookout Bombers Saturday and 4-2 on Friday night.
The Lakehead Thunderwolves split their games over the weekend.
The ‘Wolves doubled up the Toronto Varsity Blues 6-3 Saturday but lost 3-2 Sunday against the Brock Badgers.
Lakehead sits second in the OUA West Standings with 21 points, just one point back of the Toronto Metropolitan University Bold.
The Thunderwolves are off now for a month and don’t play again until January 2nd against the SIJHL all-stars.
