Police make arrest on child pornography charges
The Thunder Bay Police Service (TBPS) has arrested a 19-year-old on charges of possessing and accessing child pornography.
TBPS’s Cyber Crime Unit began an investigation in July following a report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, via the National Child Exploitation Crime Centre.
Through the investigation, the crime unit conducted a search warrant in October on the city’s north side.
The accused was arrested on Tuesday.
They have since been released from custody with a future court date.
The TBPS reminds parents and caregivers to be vigilant when children use the internet and electronic devices.
Tips for discussing exploitation with one’s children can be found at Canada’s National Tipline for Reporting the Online Sexual Exploitation of Children.
Those with a sexual interest in children can find resources at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) or consult Talking for Change.
