Holiday Showcase features 3 players from Kam River
Three Thunder Bay forwards will get the chance to shine on the 20-man All Star Showcase squad for the Superior International Junior Hockey League (SIJHL).
Graduating players Kaden Goodwin and Evan Lachimea will be joined by Carter Poddubny in the two-game event against the Lakehead Thunderwolves on Friday January 2 and Saturday January 3 at Fort William Gardens.

“I thought it was pretty cool,” admitted Poddubny, who can still play two more years of junior hockey. “Our General Manager Kevin McCallum told us about it, and he was pretty pumped about it. I’ve never seen anything like this before, so I’m excited to be involved in it.”
Lachimea (19), Poddubny (19) and Goodwin (16) are the top three scorers on the Fighting Walleye ahead of this weekend’s double-header with the Red Lake Miners. Goodwin leads the team with nine goals while Poddubny has 14 assists.

“It’s going to be a good opportunity to showcase our league and our skills against the Lakehead Thunderwolves. I’m super excited and grateful to have that opportunity to play,” said Lachimea.

“It’ll be cool to go with a couple teammates. It’ll be fun for all of us to experience together,” Goodwin added. “You can still be friends with the other guys in the room from the other teams, but once we’re back to getting at it in the season, it’ll be hard battles again.”
The SIJHL squad will be made up of four members from the Fort Frances Lakers, Sioux Lookout Bombers and Thunder Bay North Stars along with three players from the Red Lake Miners and two players from the Dryden GM Ice Dogs.
