OPP plan to catch up on Criminal Record Checks
The OPP say they hope to get caught up on Criminal Record Checks by the end of the year.
That’s according to Inspector Jeff Duggan of the Kenora OPP.
He says right now, they are facing a backlog that goes back to September.
“We’re so far behind because of the time of year,” told Kenora city council during his presentation.
“So, you look at this time of year, you’ve got hockey, you’ve got all these winter sports. They all need Vulnerable Sector Checks. They balloon this time of year.”
Duggan says the OPP are adding more resources to try and catch up.
“The Commissioner’s commitment to the Ministry (of the Solicitor General) has been to get caught those done and caught up by the end of the year and then stay caught up, right up until December 31st, because right now we’re working on September’s.”
Kenora councillor Lisa Moncrief says many agencies are not able to hire staff yet, or they have hired staff, but new employees can’t work, because they can’t get a Criminal Record Check.
