Thunder Bay to get blasting of snow
A winter storm watch is in effect for Thunder Bay, with Environment Canada warning storm conditions could arrive tonight and last into Thursday night.
Forecasters say Thunder Bay could see 15 to 25 centimetres of snow, with reduced visibility in heavy snow and blowing snow.
There’s also a chance the system changes to rain or freezing rain on Thursday, especially closer to Lake Superior, which could lower the final snowfall totals.
Environment Canada also says strong northerly winds gusting up to 70 kilometres an hour are expected to develop later Thursday.
Any rain is expected to switch back to snow as temperatures fall, creating the risk of significant blowing snow and quickly changing travel conditions.
Drivers and pedestrians are being urged to plan for difficult conditions, including sudden visibility drops and snow-covered or slippery surfaces.
Environment Canada notes that areas north of Thunder Bay are under more severe warnings calling for higher snowfall totals.
