NOHFC funding for new ice plant for Machin area
A new ice plant is being planned for the Woodland Arena in Vermilion Bay.
The Township of Machin has received $500,000 from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund to replace the existing unit.
Mayor Gordon Griffiths they will begin installation of the new ice plant in the spring.
“I think we’ll have in by fall, and I guess fall is three months, so it’s hard to say which one of those months it will actually be done, but that’s our plan,” states Griffiths.
Griffiths says the current ice plant is on its last legs and they hope there is enough life in it to get it through the winter.
“We’re still not sure if we’re getting through the winter with the units we’ve got right now, but we’re babying them along. One of them is actually done, so we’re down to the number 2 unit and we’re keeping our fingers crossed that we’re going to make it.”
Griffiths says the Township of Machin will also contribute funding for the installation of the of the new ice plant, and he’s hoping they can also get private money to help out with the cost.
