Saint John firefighters begin ice rescue training
Annual ice rescue training is underway at the Rockwood Park Driving Range, according to the Saint John Fire Department.
Crews are cutting and maintaining open water on the ice as part of the exercises.
The fire department outlined that the training runs from January 26 to February 12 and involves creating openings in the ice to practise rescue techniques.
The notice also warned that the openings pose a safety risk and asked people to avoid the area and keep well back from exposed water.
Barrier tape or rope will be used to mark the hazard zone and maintain a safe perimeter around the site.
The training is part of ongoing efforts to keep firefighters prepared for emergencies.
