Another Conservative MP joins the Liberals
The newest member of the federal Liberals is Matt Jeneroux.
He crossed the floor from the Conservatives to join Prime Minister Mark Carney’s government, according to a social media post from Carney.
Jeneroux represents the riding of Edmonton Riverbend, Alberta.
The MP previously announced his resignation in November but did not say he planned to join the governing party.
At the time, Jeneroux said it was not an easy decision, but he believed it was the right one.
“I ran in the last election hopeful that Canadians would put their faith in a team led by Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives, offering a chance to change Canada’s perception in our own country and around the world,” said Jeneroux. “I wanted desperately to play a role in that vision.”
This came after Nova Scotia MP Chris d’Entremont crossed the floor to the Liberals that same month.
However, the Liberal Party is still shy of enough seats to have a majority government.
