Kenora Rotary honours Paul Harris award winners
The Kenora Rotary Club has announced the winners of this year’s Paul Harris Awards.
They go to Chris Penner of the Beaver Brae football club and Ursula Larsson of the Kenora Rowing Club.
Penner is a long-time coach of the football program at the high school, and while he is retiring this year as a teacher, and says this is a meaningful award.
“It’s something that you don’t expect to happen and so it really nice to be appreciated,” Penner said following Monday’s awards ceremony.
“I always say I never do anything for appreciation; I do things because I want to and because of the impact it has. So, this is just a cherry on top.”
Larsson is a long volunteer with the rowing club and also the Kenora Nordic Ski and Biathlon Club and says she just wants to get people out and active.
“I need people to be active. I need them to be off their screens, and I need us to enjoy winter and summer here so that we have a vibrant community.”
Larsson adds this year she’s coaching the Jackrabbit ski program and is enjoying seeing 3-, 4- and 5-year-olds enjoying winter.
