Former police chief faces pre-trial hearing in Toronto
Former Thunder Bay chief of police Sylvie Hauth was in Toronto on Monday and Tuesday for her pre-trial hearing, in preparation for an upcoming trial in Thunder Bay in April.
Hauth is facing charges of obstructing a public or peace officer, breach of trust by a public officer, and two counts of obstruction of justice from her time as chief of police.
Hauth’s case is high-profile for the city, with her time as chief being plagued by controversy and allegations of police misconduct.
At the hearing, Hauth’s team motioned for all charges to be dropped due to delays in the proceedings.
The prosecution, meanwhile, has motioned for some of Hauth’s statements to be admitted as evidence.
The judge on the case, Justice Robert Goldstein, will offer a decision on the motions by March 9.
Hauth’s trial is scheduled to begin in Thunder Bay in April.
