Local sports for Monday, March 2nd
The Fort Frances Lakers continue to hold down first place in the Superior International Junior Hockey League standings.
The Lakers split their games over the weekend, losing 5-4 Saturday night to the Thunder Bay North Stars.
That followed up on a 2-0 victory for Fort Frances Friday night against the Stars.
The Lakers now have 70 points and are 8 points up on the Kam River Fighting Walleye and the Dryden GM Ice Dogs who have 62 points.
The Ice Dogs lost both their games to Kam River over the weekend, dropping a 4-1 decision Saturday night and a 2-1 decision in overtime Friday.
Dryden still has three games in hand on the Walleye and two on the Lakers.
Tonight, the Ice Dogs host the Ironwood Lumberjacks.
Two other games over the weekend in SIJHL, with the Sioux Lookout Bombers winning both games against the Lumberjacks, downing them 5-3 on Saturday night and 5-0 on Friday night.
