Dalhousie to open new campus in India
Dalhousie University is partnering with two Indian research institutions to establish a new global innovation campus in Tirupati, India.
The Tirupati Tri-Institutional Global Innovation Campus will be developed alongside Indian Institute of Technology Tirupati and Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Tirupati. The initiative will link graduate training and research with industry to support innovation and strengthen economic ties between Canada and India.
The campus will roll out in phases over the next decade, beginning with joint programming and industry sponsorship before moving toward shared physical space.
The announcement was made in Mumbai during an event attended by Prime Minister Mark Carney and Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand. Dalhousie was part of a Canadian university delegation that also included University of British Columbia, University of Toronto and McGill University.
Planned areas of focus include clean energy, critical minerals, digital agriculture, health technologies and applied artificial intelligence.
The partnership will support joint degrees, co-supervised doctoral training and industry-embedded master’s programs, along with research commercialization and market-entry support.
Additionally, the offerings will include a nursing program that would provide credentials in both countries for successful graduates, opening a new pathway for nurse recruitment to Nova Scotia.
Dalhousie says the initiative builds on its existing partnerships in India and is designed to move beyond traditional exchange agreements toward a more integrated research and industry model.
