Thunder Bay begins annual pothole repairs
City of Thunder Bay crews are on the streets this week to fill in potholes caused by melting snow.
Prolonged periods of above-zero weather over the past weekend mark the beginning of the end for winter, and the beginning of pothole season.
As snow melts, freezes over, and melts once more, concrete is weakened and can eventually break into pieces, forming potholes.
Thunder Bay has a 24-hour pothole reporting phone line, which it encourages residents to use: potholes can be reported at (807) 625-2195.
Potholes can also be reported online.
As city crews work to fill in potholes, the city government asks that drivers proceed safely and at a reasonable speed while travelling around any road work operations.
