Information and Privacy Commissioner not impressed by FOI changes
Ontario’s Information and Privacy Commissioner is not happy with the Ford government.
On Friday, they proposed new legislation that would make it harder to access the records of the premier, the cabinet, and their staffers through Freedom of Information requests.
In an open letter Patricia Kosseim calls this a shocking announcement.
She says it seriously undermines the Freedom of Information principle.
The commissioner adds that it would prevent Ontarians from accessing any government information held by the premier or his cabinet.
Kosseim has other concerns with the proposed legislation and says independent oversight is critical to ensure government programs operate responsibly.
