N.B. fuel prices plunge after cuts to federal fuel excise tax
Gas is down again on Monday morning, but this time, it’s not due to the interrupter clause.
Reductions are due to the temporary federal fuel excise tax cut announced by Prime Minister Mark Carney last week.
This cut comes as global oil prices surge due to the war in Iran.
Temporary reductions to the excise tax will remain until Labour Day.
In New Brunswick, maximum prices for regular self-serve dropped by 11.5 cents to around $1.72.
Diesel dipped 4.6 cents a litre to around $2.10.
The interrupter clause was invoked twice over the weekend. The first time, early Saturday morning, the maximum for regular self-serve gas prices increased by 10 cents a litre, then early Sunday morning, they decreased by 6.9 cents a litre.
