Campobello to Deer Island ferry extends schedule
The provincial government announced Monday that the ferry service between Deer and Campobello islands has been extended for 2026.
According to a release, a contract between the provincial government and East Coast Ferries Ltd. means crossings will be made seven days a week, weather-permitting.
Crossings start May 11 and will continue until Thanksgiving, Oct. 12.
Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Chuck Chiasson said the domestic connection to Campobello Island is important for both residents and visitors.
The island has a permanent link with the mainland, the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Bridge, but connected to Lubec, Maine.
Using the bridge means a round trip to other parts of Canada requires crossing the border four times and 150 kilometres of travel.
Chiasson said the government will continue to work with East Coast Ferries to ensure the crossing remains both accessible and reliable.
