Power Purchase Agreement in place for developers of Fort Frances solar project
A key milestone for a solar project in Fort Frances.
FirstLight Energy has signed a power purchase agreement with the Independent Electricity System Operator.
FirstLight is working on a 57-megawatt project in partnership with Lac Des Mille Lacs First Nation, planned for land in the northeast corner of Fort Frances.
The company is still working through permitting and environmental field work before installation can begin.
“The signing of this Power Purchase Agreement represents a major milestone for the Fort Frances Solar Project and formalizes its role in bringing new solar generation online in Ontario,” Justin Trudell, President and Chief Executive Officer of FirstLight, states in a release.
“In partnership with Lac Des Mille Lacs First Nation, we’re proud to advance a project that will deliver reliable, cost-effective clean energy to the grid while creating lasting value for the community.”
The Fort Frances Solar Project was one of three projects in northwestern Ontario permitted earlier this year to take the next steps toward development by the IESO.
The company intends to update the public on its project with open houses later this year.
