St. Stephen elects Steve Backman as mayor
The Municipal District of St. Stephen will be welcoming a new mayor to its town council.
Steve Backman will be taking on the job after securing about three-quarters of the vote in Monday night’s election.
Backman ran on a campaign focused on growth, healthcare access, and public transparency.
Former Mayor Allan MacEachern and Deputy Mayor Ghislaine Wheaton both chose not to seek re-election.
A fresh crop of councillors will be joining the new mayor as well.
Of the four incumbent candidates to run in the municipality’s first and second Wards, only Wade Greenlaw will be returning.
Greenlaw will be joined by Chandra Best and Justin Wesselink in Ward 1.
In Ward 2, Mark Howard Porter, Bernadette Cunningham, and Steven Morgan will be joining the council.
More to come…
