Peter Diedrich joins mayoral race
Former Tbaytel CEO, engineer and venture capitalist Peter Diedrich is the latest to enter the Thunder Bay mayoral election, after submitting his nomination papers at City Hall on Tuesday.
Diedrich is running on the promise of running a more transparent and bureaucratically efficient city with less red tape.
In his campaign launch, he describes a business environment where “when someone wants to open a café, build housing, or invest in our city, the answer will need to be simple: ‘We can help you do that. Right away.'”
Diedrich wants to see the city’s post-secondary schools team up with the city to create an innovation laboratory for business and technology.
He promises to support Indigenous entrepreneurs and partner with economic leaders.
Above all, the mayoral candidate is calling for a stronger economy, safer streets, and a central city institution for getting the homeless off the streets.
