Yarmouth County names representatives for Nova Scotia Volunteer Awards
Two Yarmouth County residents will be recognized at this year’s Nova Scotia Volunteer Awards for their contributions to the community.
Phil Demille has been selected as the Municipality of Yarmouth’s volunteer representative, while Brandon Trask will represent the Town of Yarmouth.
The selections were made following nominations gathered during National Volunteer Week and a review process involving municipal and town council members.
Demille was recognized for his long-standing commitment to community fundraising and support for local school breakfast programs.
Among his contributions was organizing the former Coal Shed Festival, which provided a showcase for local musicians while raising money for community organizations. He and his family also continue to support breakfast programs through annual Christmas tree fundraising efforts.
Trask was selected for his extensive volunteer work in sports and community organizations.
He has helped organize sports leagues, tournaments and fundraising events, coached youth teams, supported community events and promoted local athletes through volunteer media work.
Both men will attend the 52nd Annual Nova Scotia Volunteer Awards ceremony in Halifax on September 28.
A local volunteer reception recognizing volunteers from across Yarmouth County is scheduled for October 6 at the Mariners Centre community room.
