Wind turbines could cause traffic delays on Hwy 104
There will be an unusual haul on Highway 104 over the next two months.
In a news release, SWEB Energy says 16 wind turbines will be taken from the Strait of Canso to the Weavers Mountain Road area in Pictou County.
They are for the Weavers Mountain Wind Energy Project, that was developed under Glooscap First Nation and Halifax-based renewable energy developer, SWEB Development.
The farm is set to produce electricity for up to 33,000 homes, once completed by the end of this year.
There are 192 parts including blades that are over 80 m long that finished arriving into Mulgrave late last week, which will be moved from a laydown area in Aulds Cove.
“The heavy loads will exit the highway slightly west of the James River ramp on a newly construction connection route and will be brought to the site via Beaver Mountain Road,” says the release.
Due to the sheer size, SWEB says, a dedicated exit was built by crews.
SWEB says you are asked to follow traffic signs and drive with caution.
