Mariners ownership reaffirms commitment to Yarmouth after second straight missed playoff berth
The owners of the Yarmouth Mariners are assuring fans the team remains committed to the community after missing the Maritime Hockey League playoffs for a second consecutive season.
In a message to supporters, ownership acknowledged the organization has fallen short of expectations and said the past two seasons have prompted serious reflection about the future direction of the club.
The statement also addressed speculation surrounding the franchise after reports of discussions involving potential ownership expansion and community partnerships.
Ownership confirmed those conversations took place but said they were focused on strengthening the organization and ensuring its long-term stability.
The group stressed that the discussions were never about relocating the team and reaffirmed its commitment to keeping the Mariners in Yarmouth.
Looking ahead
The upcoming season will mark the 25th anniversary of the franchise.
Ownership says celebrations are being planned, including a commemorative logo, special merchandise, an anniversary jersey and recognition of some of the top players in team history.
The organization also announced a renewed focus on accountability and performance under a theme called “The Standard.”
“We don’t simply want to make the playoffs — we want to compete for championships,” ownership wrote.
Preparations for the new season begin later this month with the Maritime Hockey League draft.
