New hotel proposed for City of Dryden
The City of Dryden is looking to add another hotel.
There’s a proposal for a 126 room, four floor, facility on Government Street.
Economic Development Manager Tyler Peacock says the proponant has done it’s due diligence.
“They’ve conducted that feasibility study and done their background research,” Peacock told Dryden city council at Monday night’s open meeting.
“That feasibility study is then used for the purposes of financing the project. At this point, that feasibility study came back positively. This developer is eager to start the creation of this hotel.”
The new hotel would cost between $12 and $15 million.
There was some discussion about whether there is the demand for another hotel, but councillor Ritch Noel it’s definitely needed.
“It would be feasible. I know myself; I tried to get a hotel for somebody during the last mill shut down and for two whole weeks there was not a hotel available between Kenora and Ignace for anybody in Dryden. I think we have similar problems when hockey tournaments come.”
The city is looking at a two-year tax break for the hotel of about $118,000 under its Community Improvement Plan.
