Health Network warns of strong sedative being added to some Moncton drugs
Vitalité Health Network is sending out a warning about powerful and dangerous substances that may have been added to some drugs in the Moncton area.
The Health Network stated in a news release that a strong sedative commonly used by veterinarians called medetomidine may be linked to the increased number of overdoses.
They add that this drug is often mixed with fentanyl, which can cause a deep and lengthy sedation. It can also make overdoses more difficult to reverse.
Vitalité also offers the following tips:
- Do not use alone. Use with someone you trust or call 1‑888‑688‑NORS
- Start with a small amount and go slowly
- Carry naloxone with you
- Avoid mixing substances
- Use overdose prevention services (OPS) at the ENSEMBLE Overdose Prevention Site
- Have your substances tested when possible (services available at ENSEMBLE)
