Alectra proposing to build a solar project in Dryden
A second solar power project is being proposed for the City of Dryden.
Kevin Whyte is a spokesperson for Alectra Energy Systems and says they are proposing to build a solar farm.
“In the City of Dryden, we found a really good parcel of land that we think is very suitable for a solar project,” Whyte told Dryden Council Monday night at its open meeting.
“It’s actually within urban limits of the city, just south of Thiel Road, right in the northeast of the urban corner of the City of Dryden.”
The site is actually close to one chosen by Atura Power for its solar project.
Whyte says it’s at least 20-year project.
“This would be a 15-megawatt distribution connected solar project. So, distribution connected…we could connect into distribution lines that run up and down any residential street…the poles and wires there.”
Whyte says they have to get approval from the Independent Electricity System Operator and the City of Dryden first before they can build.
A public information session will be held at the Memorial Arena on September 4th.
Council is expected to discuss a letter of support at its next meeting on September 8th.
