More sex assault charges against doctor who worked in N.S. & N.B

Police in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick have charged a doctor with new offences related to an ongoing investigation of sexual assaults at hospitals.

In August, RCMP charged the former employee of Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre with sexual assault.

Investigators learned the assault happened in January during an assessment at a hospital emergency room and believed there may be additional victims.

In an update Friday, the Mounties say following other reports from the public and further investigation, the accused was arrested at Edmundston Police Force Headquarters on November 4th.

He now faces five additional charges of sexual assault also associated to his employment as an emergency room doctor.

He was released on conditions pending court dates on November 17th at Amherst Provincial Court and February 27th at Moncton Provincial Court.

Police still believe there may be other victims in Quebec, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick where he has practised.

In a statement, Cst. Heather Lourie of the Cumberland County Integrated Street Crime Enforcement Unit says, “Investigators appreciate the courage that it takes for someone to come forward and share their experience. Victims can contact police and discuss an incident before making a decision to participate in the investigation and court process.”

Dodgers even World Series with 5-1 win over Jays

The Los Angeles Dodgers have tied up the World Series 1-1 with 5-1 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre.

Dodgers’ Yoshinobu Yamamoto made history Saturday as the first pitcher to throw two complete games consecutively in the post-season since 2001.

Toronto’s veteran starter Kevin Gausman made his World series debut. He went six and two-thirds innings, giving up three runs on four hits, and struck out six of L.A.’s batters.

Jays’ manager John Schneider told reporters after the game that “it was a classic pitchers’ duel.”

Saturday night’s victory guarantees the Fall Classic will go for at least five games.

Game 3 will be at 8 p.m. ET on Monday at Dodger Stadium.

Max Scherzer will pitch for the Blue Jays and Tyler Glasnow will for the Dodgers.

Child dead, teen injured in vehicle-moped collision near Tracadie

An eight-year-old boy has died following a collision involving a vehicle and moped in Haut-Sheila, N.B.

RCMP say on Friday shortly before 7:00 p.m., crews responded to a crash at the intersection of Route 370 and Edmond Road.

Investigators believe the northbound vehicle struck the northbound moped.

Police say a little boy from Saint-Pons, N.B., the passenger on the moped, was transported to hospital where he later died of his injuries.

The driver of the moped, a 17-year-old boy, also from Saint-Pons, was transported to hospital with what are believed to be serious injuries.

The occupants of the vehicle were not injured.

The investigation is ongoing.

Blue Jays open World Series with historic grand-slam win

Game 1 of the World Series was one for the books!

The Toronto Blue Jays crushed the Los Angeles Dodgers 11-4 Friday night to take a 1-0 lead in the Fall Classic.

Toronto exploded with 9 runs in the 6th inning.

Addison Barger hit the first-ever pinch-hit grand slam in World Series history.

It was the Jays’ first appearance in the World Series since 1993.

Game 2 is on Saturday night.

Toronto’s veteran starter Kevin Gausman will take the mound against L.A.’s Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

Police presence at casino in Thunder Bay

There has been a large early-morning police presence after reports of a vehicle fire in Thunder Bay.

A burnt-out car is in the Gateway Casino’s south entrance parking lot on Friday.

Police have not said whether anyone was injured, and no other details have been provided.

An investigation is underway.

Partner of N.S. mass shooter writes memoir about abusive relationship

The common-law spouse of the man responsible for the Nova Scotia mass shooting has written a book about the abuse she endured in their relationship.

Lisa Banfield’s memoir is called The First Survivor: Life with Canada’s Deadliest Mass Shooter.

On April 18, 2020, the killer, dressed as an RCMP officer, went on a rampage in Portapique, NS and surrounding areas that left twenty-two people and an unborn child dead.

In a release, Sutherland House says Lisa Banfield tells her story for the first time of surviving nearly 20 years of intimate partner violence and that horrific night.

The Toronto-based publisher says it is not just her personal account but “a call to action” in which “she exposes the failures in how society sees, supports, and judges survivors of domestic abuse.”

Banfield wrote the book with journalist Sherri Aikenhead, and her sister, Maureen Banfield.

It is due to be published January 20, 2026.
