Bernie cleared by Integrity Commissioner again
For the second time this year, a Kenora city councillor has been cleared by their Integrity Commissioner.
Bob Bernie was found not to violate the city’s code of ethics for city councillors.
Bernie says the whole investigation is a waste of money for the city.
“If you decide you want to go down this route, do your homework for god’s sake…don’t embarrass yourself and don’t waste the taxpayer’s money,” Bernie told Kenora city council week in responding to the Integrity Commission’s report.
“Because there is a common theme here. Two of these have now been unfounded, so it tells me that whoever is putting these forward is severely misdirected.”
The Integrity Commissioner’s investigation had to do with Bernie’s comments about the shooting death of a man at Anicinabe Park in June of 2024.
Bernie is unapologetic about his comments.
“Hurt feelings don’t matter. They certainly don’t matter to me. I’m here to make decisions and I’m going to speak my mind and I’m going to say what I believe to be true and what I know to be true. And if you have a problem with that, I suggest you come to me, and don’t waste the taxpayer’s money.”
The Integrity Commissioner’s report cost the city $7,579.00 to conduct.
