Canteen improvements requested from Fort Frances town council
Fort Frances council will consider a request in next year’s budget for improvements to the canteen at the Memorial Sports Centre.
The operator contracted to run the canteen provided council with a wish list of improvements.
Riley Pollard is asking town council to consider improvements such as the removal of dated cabinetry and finishes, the installation of new flooring and appliances and a lower front counter.
Pollard, in his letter, says that while the canteen is small with physical limitations, it has the potential of becoming more welcoming, meeting today’s food safety standards, and functioning more efficiently.
“The arena canteen has the potential to be a clean, modern, and community-loved space,” writes Pollard.
“Investing in upgrades will benefit current and future operators, increase food service reliability, and enhance the overall experience for arena users.”
In his letter, Pollard recommends that the town consult with public health, building, and food service professionals to ensure any upgrades are compliant with Ontario’s Food Premises Regulations.
No cost figures were attached to the request.
In their discussion, council directed administration to bring a report back when council discusses the capital budget later this year.
