City of Kenora still in deficit position
The City of Kenora is slowly chipping away at this year’s deficit.
It stands at $283,047 through the first three quarters.
Co-CAO Stace Gander says that’s an improvement of over 380 thousand dollars from the second quarter.
“You know, we’ve really come a long way in the last couple of months in terms of closing that gap, which just demonstrates strong financial management,” Gander told council recently.
Gander says that’s why it’s good to have a quarterly report on the city’s finances, so they can find out if there are problem areas and try to correct them.
“The second quarter financial report that was presented, we were not looking (to be) in a good place, and we’ve done a lot to improve the financial position, and what we think our year-end expected finish is going to be.”
After the second quarter, the city was looking at a deficit of almost $664,000.
Some of the numbers from the 3rd quarter include the Water & Wastewater deficit, which is forecasted at $109,000 and the Solid Waste budget surplus at $8,859.
