Crime Stoppers commemorates 40 years in Thunder Bay
Thunder Bay District Crime Stoppers raised its flag at City Hall on Friday to celebrate its four-decade partnership with the city.
Solade Nicol, Chair for the Thunder Bay District Crime Stoppers, used the occasion to thank the organization’s sponsors and collaborators, who kept the organization alive when it was in danger of closing last year.
“They noticed that it’s a vital organization, and they don’t want this organization to die down,” Nicol says of the organization’s supporters.
But Nicol stresses that the organization, despite having navigated dire straits, is not only in need of financial contributions.
“We need people’s ideas. We need people to come forward to join us as well,” he adds.
The organization is currently seeking new board members and volunteers in the district.

Thunder Bay Police Service Chief Darcy Fleury says Crime Stoppers plays a vital role because it takes anonymous tips.
“Some people aren’t comfortable coming to the police right up front, and maybe they have the information, but they’re a little bit afraid of the consequences,” he explains.
At the press conference, Nicol offered several statistics about the district organization, hoping to draw attention to the role Crime Stoppers plays in assisting police with solving crimes.
From January 1 to December 14, 2025, Thunder Bay District Crime Stoppers produced or contributed to:
- 1,114 tips, with 1,109 tips followed.
- 34 arrests.
- 31 cases cleared.
- 69 charges laid.
- $10,861 in recovered property.
- $2,387,393 in drugs seized.
