District of Rainy River Services Board hosting Community Care Expo
A variety of agencies in the Fort Frances area are coming together for what is being described as a Community Care Expo.
The District of Rainy River Services Board (DRRSB) is hosting the event at its HOPE Centre on Thursday, November 20th.
It is aimed at individuals facing homelessness or at risk.
Community Engagement Coordinator Brenda Witherspoon-Bedard says it is a convenient way for people to access multiple services simultaneously.
“We’re going to be offering a variety of services,” says Witherspoon-Bedard.
“So, someone could come in and if they’re looking for, maybe they need a haircut or maybe they want to connect with somebody for mental health or even complete a housing application.”
Representatives from the DRRSB will also be available to address questions or concerns about housing or Ontario Works.
Officials with the Fort Frances Public Library, Rainy River District Victim Services, Riverside Health Care’s Nelson House, and others will also have a presence.
Witherspoon-Bedard says the event also coincides with National Housing Day, which draws attention and awareness to the housing and homelessness issues across the country.
National Housing Day is on November 22nd.
The Community Care Expo runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a free lunch offered to those who attend.
