District Services Board conducting exploratory work on former Fort Frances school playground
Exploratory work is taking place on the former St. Michael’s School playground in Fort Frances.
The District of Rainy River Services Board says drilling is taking place as part of a housing study announced earlier this year.
The Services Board acquired the former Catholic school in 2021.
The playground was later rezoned to permit several eight-unit apartment complexes, but the project has yet to proceed.
The agency recently stated that it was not committed to building on that site and that other suitable properties were being explored as well.
On a social media post, the Board states that geotechnical and environmental assessments will be conducted to help determine their next steps.
The work is expected to wrap up next month.
