Dryden council defers sewer and water rate increase
Dryden City council has deferred any increase in sewer and water rates.
Last month a consultant recommended a 6.2 percent increase.
Councillor Bill Lathan says he can’t vote in favour of the increase.
“At this time, I cannot support the 6 percent on the water and sewer taxes,” Latham told Dryden Council Monday night.
“My reason for that is because until we see the other taxes that we’re going to be putting on this year, I can’t see us overtaxing on both.”
Councillor Michelle Price says she doesn’t like the increase, but she understands the reason for it.
“This bad infrastructure that we got now, is going to continue to get worse until we have a major break and then we’re trying to figure out how we’re going to fix this because we don’t have enough money to fix it.”
A majority of council says it also wants to see what the draft budget will be before making any decision on sewer and water rates.
