Extreme cold temperature expected through the weekend
The extremely cold weather will be with us right through the weekend.
Eric Tomlinson is a meteorologist with Environment Canada and says the Orange code warning for cold temperatures will likely be with us until at least Monday.
“The reason for the Orange warning for cold at the moment is the duration of this cold snap,” explains Tomlinson.
“So, it’s a long-duration event. That’s going to stick around for the entire weekend with windchill values at night down to -40 to -48.”
Tomlinson says temperatures should moderate next week.
“There should be some reprieve on Monday. Daytime highs should be closer to around -15 to -18. So, slightly warmer, but still very cold with windchill values of -30 for those days, heading into next week.”
Tomlinson says despite the recent frigid weather, the Daily Mean Temperature in January will actually be quite close to normal.
