Fatal fire on KI First Nation
One person is dead following a fatal fire on the Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug (KI or Big Trout Lake) First Nation.
The OPP say the fire broke out to a house on Crossroads Street early Monday morning, around 3:30.
First Responders, Regional Fire Rescue personnel and the KI Fire Department all responded.
The house was fully engulfed by flames by the time fire crews arrived at the scene and they worked to make sure it did not spread.
Following their initial response, one person was located deceased.
Kiiwetinoong MPP Sol Mamakwa has identified the deceased as the three-year-old grandson of the band’s chief Donny Morris.
The Ontario Fire Marshall’s office and the Office of the Chief Coroner of Ontario are continuing the investigation along with the OPP.
