Fire Prevention week focuses on lithium-ion batteries
The Kenora Fire Department is focusing on the safe use and disposal of batteries this week.
It’s Fire Prevention Week, and the theme is Charge into Fire Safety with Lithium-Ion batteries.
Chief Gord Howard suggests using the Buy, Charge and Recycle Safely approach.
“”Fire Prevention Week is a reminder that lithium-ion batteries power our daily lives, but they must be used safely.”
He suggests looking for a nationally recognized testing labs on the packaging, alway use the cords that came with the product to charge it, and don’t throw lithium-ion batteries in the garbage or regular recycling because they could catch fire.
He says recycling your device or battery at a safe battery recycling location is the best way to dispose of them. Visit the Transfer Station at 401 Mellick Avenue to discard your lithium-ion batteries for free.
To finish up Fire Prevention Week, the fire department is holding an open house this Saturday from 11 till 3 at the main Fire Hall.
