Five arrested in North Spirit Lake drug bust
Members of the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service and K9 Unit arrested five suspects and seized nearly $65,000 worth of crack cocaine following the search of a North Spirit Lake First Nation home Sunday.
The warrants were obtained as a result of an ongoing investigation into drug trafficking activity within the area.
Four suspects — two men and two women between the ages of 34 and 51 — are charged with possession of cocaine with the purpose of trafficking. A fifth suspect, a 33-year old man, is charged with possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000. All five individuals are from North Spirit Lake First Nation.
One suspect was remanded into custody with a future court date. The others were released from custody with conditions and future court appearance dates. The names of accused individuals are withheld until charges against them have been formally sworn in before the courts.
The investigation remains ongoing.
