Floor hockey rink planned for Keewatin Arena
A new rink is in the works at the Bowman Electric Keewatin Memorial Arena.
Plans are being made for a floor hockey arena in the upper mezzanine.
General manager of Recreation and Culture Andrew Smith says they are working with a couple of minor hockey groups to make that happen.
“What we’re planning on doing is utilizing some of our own materials that we’ve had from past arenas and also there are some volunteer groups who are looking to donate materials…donate work,” Smith told city council recently.
“Essentially, it’s going to look like an arena, but it will have a much smaller area.”
Smith a couple of groups have already come forward to offer their help.
“We’ve decided to work with a couple of minor hockey groups to come up with a permanent solution, where the parents can allow their children to play hockey in a more inviting environment.”
Smith says they would build the floor hockey rink during the summer, when the ice is out at the Keewatin arena.
