Fort Frances council to review parking options at Sister Kennedy Centre
Fort Frances town council is expected to review tonight options for more parking at the Sister Kennedy Centre.
A report from Administration proposes using the centre’s green space to add four new spaces.
One option proposes a new entrance off of Victoria Avenue.
The other would eliminate two existing spots to access the four new ones.
Administration pegs construction costs of between $175,000 and $225,000 for that option and between $325,000 and $400,000 for the other.
Its report notes that no design work has been taken, and the impact on stormwater drainage is not known.
It adds that it bases its estimates on the costs of other parking lot construction that has previously taken place.
Council previously rejected a request to ease on-street parking restrictions near the centre.
A sidewalk along Nelson Street to a nearby municipal lot was considered, but a bid was not accepted because costs came in higher than expected.
Administration makes no recommendation on which parking option it prefers, suggesting council seek an updated pricing for the construction of the sidewalk for consideration in the 2026 capital budget.
