Health Canada recalls certain brand of Lake of the Woods Sunrise Soap
Lake of the Woods Sunrise Soap, based in Kenora, has been hit with a product recall.
Shades of Grey Bars of Soap has been recalled because they contain a potentially carcinogenic ingredient, methyl eugenol, above the maximum concentration outlined in the Cosmetic Ingredient Hotlist.
Health Canada says methyl eugenol is prohibited as a pure ingredient on the Hotlist due to its potential for carcinogenicity but is permitted as a naturally occurring component in botanical extracts with specific limits depending on the product type.
A spokesperson for the company says all the affected soap has been pulled off their shelves.
He adds this is the first recall they’ve ever had, and that they’ve been making the soap the same way for the past 28 years.
As of January 7th, there have been no reports of injuries or incidents in Canada.
