KDSB continues to work with CMHA on emergency shelter
The Kenora Emergency Shelter will continue to operate with longer hours for the next two years.
The Kenora District Services Board says has reached an agreement with the Kenora office of the Canadian Mental Health Association.
As part of that agreement, the emergency shelter will operate for 16 hours a day, seven days a week, until at least April 1st, 2028.
The extended hours of operation are from 4 pm until 8 am.
Sarah Stevenson is CEO of the KDSB, and the agreement is crucial to the on-going operation of the emergency shelter.
“Since November 2024, these extended operating hours have helped address service gaps for our region’s most vulnerable individuals. The continuation of these extended hours through April 1, 2028, contributes to the safety, health, and well-being of shelter clients in the community.”
Also the Clinical Service Hub at the shelter will be continue to be open from 8 am until 4 pm.
The facility, which has 46 beds, provides unhoused and underhoused people living in Kenora with warm, safe, overnight accommodations, snacks, warm beverages and toiletries; and connections to mental health, addictions, employment and housing supports.
