Kenora city council ready to approve three budgets
The City of Kenora is ready to approve three budgets.
Council met this morning to discuss the Solid Waste, Sewer and Water and Capital budgets.
The capital budget calls for a 0.26 percent increase to the tax base, and councillor Barb Manson says she can’t support that yet.
“I prefer to vote on the Capital (budget) once all budget information is received, including outside agencies,” Manson told a special meeting of council.
“If we need to reduce our tax levy, even though it’s not a lot, we need to have all options open.”
Manson and council Lisa Moncrief voted against approving the capital budget right now, but three other councillors and the mayor voted in favour of moving ahead with it.
Manson is concerned about another large increase in taxes.
“I have no problem with the utility budgets. I have concerns regarding anything that affects our tax levy.”
This year’s capital budget is just over $6.1 million.
